English Language Arts 

Outcome

Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts by 3rd grade.

Goal

By the close of the 2023/24 school year 100% or our kindergarten students will meet the PALS spring benchmark.
By the close of the 2023/24 school year 100% of our first and second graders will meet the iReady spring benchmark.
By the close of the 2023/24 school year 100% our our third grade students will read at grade level as defined by SOL.
Of the 28 4th grade students who did not pass their 3rd grade sol, 20 of them, 71% , will pass the 4th grade sol.
By the close of 2023/24 in grades 3-6 our overall pass rate will increase by 2% or 10 students.
 

Strategy 1  

  • Expand use of independent practice with a variety of texts (e.g., decodable, nonfiction, fiction) and meaningful tasks (e.g., Lexia, writing about reading). (HLP 2-4)

Strategy 2

  • Expand use of skills-based grouping to ensure students demonstrate mastery of foundational skills. (HLP 2, 5)

Strategy 3

  • Increase impact of tier 2 interventions for students demonstrating risk by using FCPS-recommended programs and practices with fidelity (e.g., Lexia, UFLI). (HLP 5)

 

Mathematics Strategies

Outcome

Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Goal

By the end of SY 2023-2024, we will increase the number of student meeting benchmark at least by 4% according to the iReady and SOL data.

Teacher implementation Strategies related to Shift 4: from show and tell to share and compare will increase from 50% to 80% utilization.

Strategy 1

  • Increase teachers implementation strategies related to Shift 4: from show and tell to share and compare.

Strategy 2

  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Strategy 3

  • Use conversation structures to increase academic talk between students.

 

Science

Outcome

Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Science.

Goal

By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, we will increase the pass rate on the VA 5th Grade Science SOL to 75%.

Strategy 1

  • Increase frequency of student learning experiences that are inquiry-based and hands-on

Strategy 2

  • Increase opportunities to apply and demonstrate understanding of vocabulary through evidence-based arguments and reasoning. 

Strategy 3

  • Use discourse strategies to increase students' academic conversations.
